一．Introduction（绪论）
1.材料科学与工程基础的概念
Materials Science ：involves investigating the relationships that exist between the structures and properties of materials (研究结构与性能之间的关系)
Materials Engineering:designing the structure of a material to produce a predetermined set of properties, based on these structure-property correlations.(根据性能要求来,设计材料结构)
2.材料的四部分重要组成元素
1）.Structure (结构)：relates to the arrangement of its internal components （内部成分的组织排列）
2）.Property (性质)：a material trait in terms of the kind and magnitude of response to a specific imposed stimulus. (对于外界施加一种特别外力，材料所表现出的特征反应)
3）.processing（加工）4）.performance （应用）
四元素的关系：The structure of a material will depend on how it is processed.A material’s performance will be a function of its properties.
3.材料的分类（按结构分）
（1）Metals（金属）：Metallic material are normally combinations of metallic elements 。结构特点：Metals are extremely good
