How to educate children?

“The children are too troublesome to get along with!” “I can’t understand what the children are thinking about.” “It seems so difficult for me to communicate with my children.” Nowadays these complaints are often heard among parents and teachers. Yes, teaching is really hard work. “How to educate children?” seems so urgent and important for our families, schools even for the future of our country and the whole world. Here, I’d like to introduce you a poem I picked up from a magazine which was written by an American educator. I hope it can give you some inspiration.

I tried to teach my child with books.

He only gave me puzzled looks.

I tried to teach my child with woods.

They passed him by, often unheard.

Despairingly, I turned aside,

“How shall I teach this child?” I cried.

“Come,” said he,

“Play with me!”

The moment I read the poem, I loved it very much. Exactly I was touched deeply. How many times we scold the children as a perfect man; How many times we punish them as a governor; How many times we ignore their dignity as a stranger; How many times we listen to their hearts as a friend?

While thinking about these questions, I’ve got the idea. How to educate children? Be their partner in the game; be their guide in the studies; be their listener when they are hurt in heart; be their companion always by their side. This is the way I teach my children. I played the film “The Sound Of Music” for them, talking about true love with them frankly. I played football with them and when I kicked the ball into the goal, it was such a thrilling experience that I felt the earth was beneath my feet. Watching the film “Jane Eyre”, we discussed about how to be independent; While singing the song “Right here waiting for you”, I told them: “Love is so amazing and wonderful that the leading singer of the song will never give it up even if he goes insane slowly. But my dear friends, just remember: Beautiful love story should be based on abilities, talent and good virtues. That’s why it only belongs to the people who are working hard, capable of dealing with any difficulties and brave enough to face the challenges, so if you want to have a romantic love story in the future, you’d better become quality people first.” Now as a teacher of 21st century, I always have too much fresh knowledge to learn, and too many challenges to meet. But to tell you the truth: I love my work and I enjoy every minute I spend with my students.
